The African Union Commission has shown commitment towards achieving the single Single African Air Transport Market (SAAM)


The Single African Air Transport Market is a flagship project of Agenda 2063 of the African Union which aims to ensure intra-regional connectivity between the cities of Africa as an impetus to the continent’s economic integration and growth agenda

The Initiative launched in 2018  is expected
to provides eligibility criteria for African community carriers, safety and security standards, mechanisms for fair competition and dispute settlement as well as consumer protection

It is also designed to create additional 300,000 jobs directly and 2 million indirect jobs for people across Africa by 2063.

The provides for the full liberalisation of intra-African air transport services in terms of market access, and the free exercise of first, second, third, fourth and fifth freedom traffic rights for scheduled and freight air services by eligible airlines.

It will also remove restrictions on ownership and provide for the full liberalisation of frequencies
