SPEAKER MEETS CSOs ON RAPE

THE SPEAKER HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES FEMI GBAJABIAMILA SAYS THE NATIONAL ASSEMBLY WILL ENGAGE HOUSES OF ASSEMBLY ACROSS THE 36 STATES ON THE NEED FOR THE DOMESTICATION OF THE CHILD RIGHTS ACT AND VIOLENCE AGAINST PERSONS PROHIBITION ACT.

WHILE HOSTING GENDER BASED CIVIL SOCIETY ORGANISATIONS, THE SPEAKER ADDED THAT THE HOUSE WOULD ALSO WORK ON SEXUAL VIOLENCE RELATED LEGISLATIONS AND CONFORM THEM WITH CURRENT REALITIES.

HE ASSURED THE GROUP THAT THE NATIONAL ASSEMBLY IS IN SOLIDARITY WITH AND SUPPORTS ALL EFFORTS AT ELIMINATING GENDER BASED AND ALL FORMS OF VIOLENCE AND ABUSE.
REPRESENTATIVES OF THE GENDER BASED CSOs  DEMANDED THAT A STATE OF EMERGENCY BE DECLARED ON DOMESTIC VIOLENCE AGAINST WOMEN AND MAKE SUCH OFFENCES CRIMINAL SINCE MANY VICTIMS DO NOT COME FORWARD.
