Senate Cttee on information cautions against Fake news on COVID-19.

The Chairman Senate Committee on Information Senator Danladi Sankara has called on Nigerians to be weary of fake news on the Coronavirus especially on the social media.

Senator Sankara in a statement observed that there are a number of unrealistic stories on the virus which seems to create panic instead of precaution.

He pointed out the story making rounds few days ago alleging that some members of the National Assembly tested positive to the Virus as one of such fake news.

The Chairman senate Committee on information pointed out that the duty to announce any case of Coronavirus in the country is under the purview of the Nigerian Centre for disease control or the ministry of health and not private individuals.

Senator Sankara advised Nigerians to strictly adhere to the sanitary guidelines as released by health officials  especially maintaining social distancing and constant washing of hands.

He explained that in spite of the two weeks recess the Senate will be ready to attain to any matter of National importance.
